Pricing
What a per-serve price does not tell you
“$9.59 per serving” is not what a box costs. It is the price of one person-meal, and a box contains one person-meal for every person on every night. A four-person, five-meal box is twenty servings, so its food costs 20 × $9.59 = $191.80 before delivery. Every figure on this site comes from that multiplication, and the arithmetic is shown below so you can check it against your own box.
Where the number comes from
HelloFresh publishes a grid of people against meals, priced per serving rather than per box. That is the clearest published per-serve table we could read in the Australian market, so it is the one this page works through. Every figure was read from their plan page on 2026-10-04.
| People | 2 meals | 3 meals | 4 meals | 5 meals | 6 meals |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | $14.99 | $12.99 | $12.29 | $11.69 | $11.29 |
| 3 | $14.19 | $11.99 | $11.49 | $10.59 | $9.99 |
| 4 | $13.59 | $11.29 | $10.39 | $9.59 | $8.99 |
| 5 | $12.99 | $10.99 | $10.29 | $9.49 | $8.89 |
| 6 | $12.49 | $10.49 | $9.69 | $8.89 | $8.59 |
The arithmetic, once, slowly
Take the 4-person, 5-meal box at $9.59 per serving. People-meals is 4 × 5 = 20. The food costs 20 × $9.59 = $191.80. Delivery is not in that figure: HelloFresh states the price as “$165 + shipping” on the same page but publishes no shipping amount, so the total this site can print is $191.80 plus an unknown delivery charge, not $191.80.
Now take the same household at 2 meals instead of 5. The table says $13.59 per serving. That is 4 × 2 = 8 servings, so 8 × $13.59 = $108.72. The household eats 40% fewer meals and the box costs 43% less. Per-serve prices move with both numbers, which is exactly why quoting one per-serve figure without saying which box it came from tells you almost nothing.
Why dividing is the wrong direction
Dividing by the meal count alone is the most common way this gets misread. The 4-person, 5-meal box has 20 servings, not 5, so dividing $191.80 by 5 gives $38.36 — a number that appears to be a serve but is really one person’s entire week. This site divides by people × meals, which is the same denominator the providers publish, and the calculator prints that per-serve figure beside the box total so the two cannot be confused again.
The same page states two different prices
While reading this table we found that HelloFresh quotes the 4-person, 5-meal box twice on one page. The introductory copy says “$165 + shipping, that’s $8.25 per serving”; the price table says $9.59. Both numbers are on the provider’s own page on 2026-10-04.
This site uses the table price, because every other box size appears only in the table and a comparison needs one consistent source. It does not pretend the conflict is not there: when you price that exact plan, the calculator shows the table figure and prints the conflicting copy next to it.
When a provider does not publish per-serve prices
Dinnerly publishes box prices instead, and states that those prices already include $11.99 shipping. For providers like that, multiplying by serves is the wrong move — the box price is already the box price. My Foodie Box publishes only a starting figure of $6.25 per serve and a flat $9.95 delivery fee, which is not enough to price a specific box at all.
That is why the calculator refuses to interpolate. If a provider publishes 4 × 5 but not 4 × 6, this site says it does not publish 4 × 6. It does not price it from the neighbouring cell, because that number would be this site’s arithmetic dressed up as a provider’s price.
These are provider-published prices read on 2026-10-04, not measured costs and not a recommendation. This site has not ordered any of these boxes. Confirm the current figure on the provider’s page before you rely on it.
